The Team NEHI Structure
Jr HS Developmental Team
This is an entry level team mainly designed for 6th through 8th graders. And, if you have a youngster who could use some gentle guidance into a higher level of play, the "D-squad" is just the team for him. Also, Developmental Team kids may use this introductory level as their second team, so that they can remain with old friends back in their hometown program. In this way, they get to take advantage of Coach Chic's outstanding practices, while playing an extra weekly game in New Bedford, MA. Capable older Developmental Team members are also eligible to be called-up for Select Team games.
Jr HS Select Team
Only look into THIS team if you have a very serious, very dedicated young player! For, the NEHI Select Team includes 7th through 9th grade players who practice and play at a much higher level than most junior high school squads. In fact, they learn tactics, strategies and playing principles oftentimes reserved for high school, college and pro players (and hardly ever treated in other programs). In-season, the Selects practice three times per week, and then compete in the very strong Pilgrim Arena (Hingham, MA) League. (7th and 8th grade Selects can even get extra games as fill-ins with our Developmental Team, while 9th graders may be called-up to the HS Prep squad.) And, because training is so intense -- and rather specific, Select members are asked not to play on another team.
High School Prep
This team is for the player who wishes to train with the absolute cream of the NEHI crop! Most HS Prep players acquire high level skills and begin learning an advanced level of play as members of the Jr HS Selects. So, by the time they reach 10th through 12th grade, these guys can really, really play, and they can also "think the game"! For these reasons, Coach Chic very carefully screens new candidates for the few openings that arise each year.

About Coach Chic's Commitment to HIS Players
Ideally, young players enter the Team NEHI program as D-squad members, move-on to the Jr HS Selects, and then graduate to the HS Prep Team. Extremely dedicated to his players, Coach Chic looks long-term at their development, knowing full well that it takes a very slow, patient, methodical approach to bring them from typical youth hockey play to a rather elite level. Understandably then, returning NEHI-ers always get first dibs on the next year's openings.
HS Prep & Alumni Accomplishments

High school tryouts and higher tests are going to be based on how well an individual performs!) That's why Team NEHI practices are more important than anything else, and that's why games are billed as merely weekly quizzes -- like, how are we doing to this point?
That said, Coach Chic is always extremely proud of the accomplishments of his HS Prep guys, particularly the ones who began as 7th graders, some of them even arriving as (so others thought) "B" and "C" players.
So, while just about every '07-08 and '08-'09 HS Prep player had a great year, here are just a few who did exceptionally well:
League All-star -- Mike Sweeney, a Senior (C) F, Marshfield (MA) HS
League All-star -- Richie Cuqua, a Frosh D, MA Maritime Academy
All Division 1A -- Derek Rocha, a Senior D, Barrington (RI) HS
All Division 1A -- Mike Murphy, a Senior F, Barrington (RI) HS
All Division 1A -- Pat Murphy, a Senior F, Barrington (RI) HS
Craig Olson - a Senior D, Archbishop Williams (MA) HS
At least 5 of our Prep players have been named Captains of their respective '08-09 high school teams!

The Value of Off-ice Training
Yes, we know that some folks aren't up-on the value of off-ice training. (And, it is an important part of the Team NEHI program.) During various times of the year, Team NEHI players have access to The MOTION Lab (located in downtown Whitman, MA). Here, numerous types of exercises are geared to each player's age and level of physical development...
And YES, every player highlighted in this video is or was a Team NEHI member!
Your Fall & Winter is Carved in Stone!
Differing greatly from most other programs is the fact that we have a very well planned fall and winter schedule.
*You can bank on a weekly Monday night skills, Wednesday night X's and O's and Saturday morning off-ice training. Our HS Prep plays on Sunday nights in Hingham, our Jr HS Selects play on Friday nights in Hingham, and our Developmental Team plays on Saturday evenings in New Bedford.
And this means that everyone can plan on having Tuesdays and Thursdays day off, as well as another day (either Friday, Saturday or Sunday depending on your team's game schedule).
